MAHPA

MAHPA was founded in 1983 as an IRS 501(c)(3) non profit organization focused on empowering underprivileged students to pursue a medical or other advanced-degree health career. MedPrep, its intense two week health-curriculum focused program, exposes high school students to practicing health care.

Academically, the program covers college and medical school level course work, study habits, test taking, leadership, professional behavior skills, and community involvement. The clinical component, a series of physician led practical app workshops in a hospital campus, introduces students to various health care disciplines, including general health, suturing, Basic Life Support certification, chronic disease management, vision health and ophthalmology, dentistry, and nutrition, among others. The last segment is a health outreach community project, where students assist medical professionals in providing basic chronic disease screening, education, immunizations, and sports physicals in a hospital or other facility.

Some of MedPrep's many participating instructors and facilities include physicians, advanced degreed-health career administrators, educators, and specialty staff from Christus Santa Rosa City Centre Hospital, Medical School at UTHSCSA Medical School, UTSA, EMS, and Faith Family Clinic.
